Lyrics
Deutsch#
Du bist zu schwach,
meinen Willen zu brechen.
Deine Stimme ist laut.
Doch die Ahnen sprechen.
Tausend Jahre
stehen hinter mir.
Tausend Feuer
brennen tief in mir.
Du bist nur ein Schatten,
aus einem Tag geboren—
vom Zufall erschaffen,
von der Zeit schon verloren.
Ich trinke aus der Tiefe
vergangener Zeit.
Ich trage ihren Ruhm,
ihre Kraft, ihren Eid.
Nicht die Verräter.
Nicht jene, die knien.
Ich folge dem Eisen.
Ich werde nicht fliehen.
Deine Stunde vergeht.
Deine Herrschaft erfriert.
Du hast einen Augenblick.
Mich haben Jahrtausende geführt.
Tausend Jahre.
Tausend Narben.
Tausend Stimmen,
die mich tragen.
Du kannst mich nicht brechen.
Du kannst mich nicht führen.
Deine Zeit ist kurz.
Meine Vergangenheit wird bleiben.
English — A Thousand Years#
You are too weak
to break my will.
Your voice is loud.
But the ancestors speak.
A thousand years
stand behind me.
A thousand fires
burn deep within me.
You are only a shadow,
born from a single day—
created by chance,
already lost to time.
I drink from the depths
of ages gone by.
I carry their glory,
their strength, their oath.
Not the traitors.
Not those who kneel.
I follow the iron.
I will not flee.
Your hour is passing.
Your reign freezes over.
You have but a moment.
Millennia have guided me.
A thousand years.
A thousand scars.
A thousand voices
that carry me.
You cannot break me.
You cannot lead me.
Your time is short.
My past will remain.
The idea#
The confrontation in “Tausend Jahre” is radically unequal. One voice belongs to a single moment; the other speaks with ancestors, fires, scars, oaths, and millennia behind it. Strength is presented not as private confidence but as continuity—the living person becoming the point through which a far older will enters the present.
Its iron imagery could imply obedience, yet the lyric draws a careful boundary: not traitors, not those who kneel. The past is valuable only where it carries endurance and refuses submission. History becomes a reservoir rather than a chain.
The closing contrast is decisive. A reign can freeze, an hour can pass, and a shadow born in one day can disappear. The inherited past remains because it has survived its individual carriers. In that sense, “a thousand years” is not a measurement of age; it is the scale of the force standing behind the word no.
