Lyrics

My soul was crown’d, then cast away,
Thy kiss did burn, yet could not stay.

The night doth mock my faithless plea,
For love is grave, and buries me.

Thou gav’st thy oath, then broke it fast,
A fleeting wind, love could not last.

I writ thy name in stars above,
Now heavens laugh at broken love.

This heart is glass, in shards it lies,
Reflecting ghosts of faded skies.

O faithless eyes, that once did shine,
They blind me now, yet once were mine.

The lute is mute, the song undone,
What once was two is now but none.

The cup is full of bitter rain,
Each drop a verse of endless pain.

No god shall heal, nor time repair,
The wound is deep, beyond all care.

The morn shall rise, yet not for me,
For thou art lost — eternity.

Early-modern diction—crown’d, doth, thy, lute mute—casts betrayal as a small Renaissance tragedy under melodic trap’s dark, nocturnal weight. Soul crowned then cast away; kiss that burns and will not stay; name written in stars that now laugh.

Heart as glass in shards; cup of bitter rain; wound beyond god or time. The archaism might be costume or genuine yearning for a language large enough for ruin. Either way, the feeling is contemporary: love as grave, morning that rises for everyone else.
