Type <strong>Software</strong> into a database and the music disappears beneath operating systems, applications and code. Even listeners who remember the records often remember the name incorrectly—as <em>Software as Hardware</em>, perhaps, or <em>Hardware as Software</em>. The confusion is understandable. <strong>Software</strong> was the project. <strong>Software as Hardware</strong> was a later album of reinterpretations.</p>
